How Often Should You Mow Your Lawn in Sydney?

Mowing frequency for couch, kikuyu, buffalo and other Sydney lawn types — plus the cost and cadence most professionals charge.

4 min read·

Frequency depends on grass type and season

Buffalo and kikuyu lawns need a mow every 7–10 days in spring/summer and every 2–3 weeks in winter. Couch lawns grow faster — every 5–7 days in peak season.

If your lawn is more than a third taller than the ideal height for its species, it's time to mow.

Typical Sydney mowing costs

A typical 300 sqm Sydney lawn costs $50–$75 per visit for mow + edge + blow. Larger blocks usually quote 'per quarter hour' beyond that.

Fortnightly contracts are 10–15% cheaper than ad-hoc bookings because they smooth out the operator's run.

When to skip a mow

Skip a mow if the grass is wet (clumping and tearing), if you've had less than 1 cm of growth, or if temperatures are above 35°C — heat-stressed grass should not be cut.
